Coaches

Head Coach: Claudette Joint. L2 Diploma

I am Belvoir Triathlon Club’s Head Coach and a Level 2 BTF Qualified Coach and
have completed my Level 2 Diploma certification to enable me to offer one-to-one
coaching. I have additionally completed the following CPD certifications:
- Coaching Children and Young People in Triathlon
- Session Planning - being creative around the fundamentals
- The Caring Coach - making connections with athletes
- Running form - teasing out the fact from fiction

I have been involved in triathlon since 2017 when I did my first sprint triathlon on a
borrowed bicycle. I have since done several sprint triathlons and a few middle-distance triathlons. I
have enjoyed multi-sport tourism and have competed in Barcelona, Copenhagen, Isles of Scilly, Cannes in triathlon and swim-run. I am a fair-weather athlete and prefer the sunshine!

I have dabbled in some long-distance endurance events involving swimming (Coniston End to End), cycling (Grantham to Edinburgh 300 miles, Rat Race Coast to Coast 105 miles, Open Adventure Coast to Coast 120 miles, Chase the Sun 200 miles) and running (Open Adventure Lakes In A Day 50 miles) and managed to pull
all three disciplines together to complete a Full Distance triathlon in Copenhagen before I turned 50!

I love the challenge of the three disciplines and how each of the disciplines differs in their physical and technical needs. I love the mental challenge of the events, although I frequently must overcome ‘race-day’ jitters! Mostly I revel in the training, the social aspect of belonging to a club and think of it all as my ‘play’ time.

I love introducing athletes to triathlon, working with athletes of all abilities and I strive to share my experience, knowledge, and enthusiasm, so that you can be the best you want to be.

Swim Coach: David Foster. L2

I did my first triathlon over 10 years ago after retiring from other sports. I love the enjoyment of training for three different events whilst maintaining the balance between them. After years of coaching junior cricket, I found that I missed helping athletes with the technical elements of their sport, so coaching was an obvious next step. I try to combine the best elements of the coaches I’ve had the pleasure of being coached by, i.e. being enthusiastic, giving important technical feedback, and offering motivation. With an academic background in psychology, I also find the mental elements of competition and training really interesting. My coaching qualifications include Level 2 Triathlon coach, L2 Open Water coach, BTF Strength and Conditioning, and an MSc. in Sport and Exercise Psychology, DBS Enhanced certified.

I discovered triathlon in 2012 after watching the London Olympics — a moment that lit a spark I didn’t even know I’d been missing. Seeing the Brownlee brothers race with such grit and determination made something click. I’d swum and cycled when I was younger, so when a colleague invited me on a group ride, I said yes. Most of the group were triathletes, and from that day on, the sport became part of who I am.

Since then, I’ve raced everything from super-sprint to half-Ironman distances, both in the UK and abroad. Although I compete in open events, I’m also a certified Paratriathlete in the PTS5 category — something I’m incredibly proud of. My mission is simple: to show people that triathlon is for everyone. Ability, background, confidence, fitness level — none of it should be a barrier. If I can help even one person believe they belong in this sport, then I’ve done something worthwhile.

Before triathlon, I was a qualified FA football coach, but life took me in other directions for a while. When I moved from Peterborough and joined Belvoir Triathlon Club as an athlete, I was asked if I’d consider coaching again. I didn’t hesitate. Coaching is where my heart is. I love helping athletes discover what they’re capable of — not just in terms of performance, but in terms of belief, resilience, and personal growth.

For me, coaching isn’t about creating perfect athletes. It’s about creating confident ones. It’s about helping people push past the limits they once set for themselves and realise they’re capable of far more than they ever imagined. Triathlon changed my life, and now I’m committed to helping others find their own version of that transformation.

Coach: Wendi Carrington. L2

Throughout my life, I have always had a passion for sport. My journey into triathlon began in 2017 when I completed the Holkham Outlaw Half. With the invaluable support of my fellow Belvoir Tri club members, I managed to finish the event, and from that moment, my love for triathlon truly flourished. Since then, I have had the honour of representing Team GB in long distance triathlon and have completed six full distance Ironman events. One of my proudest achievements was earning a coveted spot at Kona, the world championships in Hawaii. These experiences have shown me that, with the right training and the encouragement of dedicated coaches and teammates, anything is possible.

My Coaching Philosophy: I take great pleasure in coaching and sharing my passion for this fantastic, inclusive sport. My enthusiasm drives me to help other members reach their triathlon goals, supporting them as they discover their own abilities and successes.

Swim Bike Run Leads

Ove Andreseson

I came from a running background and joined Belvoir Tri Club in August 2013, when the club was still in its early days. What started as a new challenge quickly became a long-term passion, and I’ve been a ride leader ever since.

Over the years, I’ve taken on a range of endurance events, including three full-distance triathlons. I’ve completed Outlaw once and Triathlon X twice, as well as a variety of shorter races. I’ve always been drawn to longer-distance events and really enjoy the mental and physical challenge.

Around seven years ago, ongoing knee issues meant I had to stop running, but I’ve stayed fully involved in the sport through swimming and cycling. Ride leading is a big part of that. It’s great when we have new members joining our rides and I really enjoy seeing them build confidence on the bike, improve their skills, and develop their fitness.

For me, it’s being part of a friendly, encouraging club environment.

Lisa Udall

I’ve always loved being active, especially as a child starting out as a cross-country runner and joining any school club I could (even football!) just to be outside!

Before moving to Grantham, I joined a running club to improve my fitness and meet new people, then in 2018 I joined Belvoir Tri as a non-swimmer. The club’s sessions built my confidence massively.

I wanted to give something back, I became an SBR lead and a member of the committee. I love encouraging people to try new things, be brave, and push their limits, because what’s the worst that can happen??

I completed my SBR Lead qualification through British Triathlon around two years ago and now lead Wednesday run’s and Sunday social rides, with an optional coffee & cake stop of course.

Wayne Searle

Participating in and watching sport is a significant part of my life. I keep as active as possible (and spend the rest of my time watching football!)

Whilst I have completed many competitive runs and triathlons, I am more of a trier than an athlete and my drive is to stay as active as possible for as long as I can rather than the need to compete.

Having been a member of the club for over 10 years, I have been the recipient of much generous advice, encouragement and inspiration. Being a bike and run lead is my way of acknowledging the help I have received and paying it forward.

If I can provide any inspiration to other members, let it be “if he can do it, so can I” !

Steve Moore

I’m relatively new to triathlon after being persuaded to join BTC 2 years ago at the ripe age of 46. Being mainly into football and running previously, I hadnt done much cycling and even less swimming when I joined. Since then I have competed in my first sprint, standard and middle distance triathlons as well as my first marathon and look forward to more of the same as well as an Ironman in the future. As a run and cycle lead I love to hear about fellow members’ goals, and I am continually inspired to do more and be the best I can be.

Phil Broad

I've always enjoyed sport but historically mainly as an "armchair athlete". I'd not considered the world of multi sports until my son ventured into the world of Triathlon and the Belvoir Tri Club. I saw the positive impact it had not only on fitness but also the social aspect and the ability to tap into a wealth of knowledge and the sharing of other people's experiences. Leading on the social cycle rides gives me the opportunity to give others the chance to get together to build confidence, increase fitness and enjoy that part of their journey whatever that is.

I joined the club in 2018 having moved to Grantham from Maidstone, Kent. I started competing in triathlon’s in 2017 after a running injury meant I had to reduce my runmileage. Initially started with a Go Tri event, then a few relays with my son, a spot of open water swimming and now some years on I’ve completed lots of club team relays and individual triathlon distance events up to full distance. The club really is so welcoming, supportive and encouraging regardless of what level you are competing at.
