Belvoir Tri Club was represented at the 1066 Triathlon in Bexhill-on-sea on Sunday.

Anne Walton helped to make up the field for the half-iron distance; 1900m swim, 56mile bike and 13 mile run.

With strong winds whipping up white caps just off the beach, a delayed start and much shortened course was all the organisers were willing to risk. After a “ready, steady, go”, and a mass charge into the water, waves broke over the swimmers and the wind and tide created a washing-machine-like environment.

All competitors were glad to make it out of the water in one piece, exhilarated, if a little dizzy . With an ungainly bare-foot run up the shingle beach to transition, it was out along the coast for the two lap bike course. Whilst glorious to ride with the wind behind, the price was paid as the turn into wind raised the heart rate. Back at the transition area, outside the nationally renowned De La Warr Pavilion, it was time to get the bike shoes off and running shoes on; just the small matter of a half marathon to complete.

With four laps up and back along Bexhill promenade, dodging afternoon strollers and children enjoying ice creams, the finish finally appeared. Anne, most deservingly finished first female overall! A podium position, medal and a Cuore cycling shirt prize to boot!

Brilliant well done Anne 👏🏼
