Club of the Year 2021
Table Tennis England, our sports National Governing Body, held their National Conference online in June 2021 and as part of this conference held the Pride of Table Tennis Awards. I am honoured to annouce that we were named National Club of the Year 2021. This is a great achievement for the club which has only being going for 3 years and out of around 400 clubs nationally. This is down to the hard work of the commitee and the continued support of all our members and those that attend our open sessions, thank you.
Be proud, buy a new club shirt sporting the club logo and wording "Club of the Year".
Welcome to Goodwin Table Tennis club’s homepage.
We are fairly new club by way of name and venue. We were formally known as Hull YPI (Young People’s Institute) and based down Chanterands Avenue in Hull. We had to move venues for various reasons in July 2018 and are now on the 2nd Floor, The Octagon Centre, Walker Street, Hull HU3 2RA.
It was then we decided to rebrand and relaunch ourselves as Goodwin Table Tennis Club. We must have done something right because we were named Yorkshire Table Tennis Club of the year and Runner up as National Table Tennis Club of the year for 2018, in our first year of relaunch. We then went one better being named in June 2021 as National Club of the Year, a great acheivement and something we are very proud of.
We have around 100 + members and the majority of them play in teams in the local Hull & District Table Tennis Association League - https://www.tabletennis365.com/Hull.
Our members range from 8 to 80+ year olds of all abilities. Some members just play for fun and don’t wish to play in the local league.
We are a friendly welcoming club and are always looking for new players of all ages and abilities to come and join us. You might be a complete beginner, play for fun at home or at a school or club or an experienced player returning to the game.
We can use our table tennis room 7 days a week and members can play every day if they wish, depending on events, bookings and table availability.
Non-members we have a list of sessions you can attend on our website, see Weekly schedule, but please drop us an email if you are thinking of coming down to play and we can talk through with you when might be the best time and options, otherwise if you just turn up the door may be locked and you won't be able to get in or may find no one there to play or there may be something else on etc
Unfortunately non members cannot book tables.
We can loan you a bat and ball if you attend one of our sessions, if you haven't got one. We have a small stock of bats and bat cases to sell or we can advise you about buying one as we have links to the major table tennis equipment suppliers in the country.
We run various sessions during the week. On Monday and Thursday afternoons 1:30 to 3:30pm we run our Over 50 sessions. These are available for members or guests (non members) to attend. Free for members and £5 per session for non members. No need to book you can just turn up, pay and play, however we would prefer you to contact us before you attend for the first time so we can arrange for someone to meet you on your first visit or let you know if the session has been cancelled. We do allow some under the age of 50 to attend too.
We run two kid’s session most Thursday nights, beginners 6 to 7pm and Intermediates 7:15 to 8:15pm, this second session is by invitation only. These are mainly for 7 to 16 year olds. Contact us if you are interested. We will provide some coaching in a group and give them the opportunity to have fun and play some games. These sessions cost £3 per junior per week.
Please drop us an email if you are new so we know you are coming and so we can make sure someone is there to say hi and greet you. Please do not just turn up the building may be closed or the room locked.
Under our previous club Hull YPI and now as Goodwin Table tennis club we have produced a number of players who have represented Hull, played County table tennis for Yorkshire and a handful have gone on to achieve England honours.
Our venue on the 2nd floor of the Octagon Centre is arguably the best conditions for table tennis in East Yorkshire. High quality table tennis tables and international standard flooring. We have 5 tables available for matches and daily for practice, with the option of wheeling in extra tables for sessions if needed. Again, take a look in our photo gallery. We host the majority of local league matches from here and host local and regional competitions, with some of the best players in Yorkshire coming to play from our venue.
Goodwin Table Tennis Club is run by a team of hard working and enthusiastic volunteers who make up the committee who together with our members try to provide a welcoming friendly club for all.
If you are interested and want to know more look round our website or contact us by email – info@goodwinttc.co.uk We will get back to you as soon as we can.
