Club Championships
Throughout the year we hold a number of club championships which add a little bit of competition and fun to the season,
Here is a brief overview
Triathlon Club Championships
We have five races from May to September that are selected as our Club Championship races, with discounted entry fees. The events selected will normally have multiple choices of distance (Super Sprint, Sprint and Standard) and each counts separately against other club members racing the same distance. One of the races chosen is especially selected to be friendly for those new to triathlons.
You don’t have to enter any or all of these, but we encourage members to get involved and do some of them. For each race you enter, you score points based on your position compared to other club members taking part. Scoring is based on the International Triathlon Union (ITU) now World Triathlon scoring system.
The 1st person scores 750 points and this decreases by 5% for each subsequent position. Across the season we take your 3 best results to give you a total score for the season - and the highest point scorer is the Club Champion.
We also have age groups, so we have a club champion and then age group champions.
Multi-sport Series
The Multi-sport Series is an ever-adapting series of races that stretch over the whole year to encompass triathlon training into the winter months. Events we have tried already, include TriFitX, Duathlon, Aquabike, and just running events. Events we will be looking at trying in the future include Swim/Run, Coast to Coast, swimming and cycling.
With an aim to promote participation the multi-sport series has a scoring system that aligns the scoring system used in the club championships. However, an average of the scoring from where you finished overall, for your entered gender category, for your age, and age and gender position are calculated, and the person at the end of the season with the most points overall will be the Multi-sport Series winner.
Cross Country Races
LBTri is a member of the Chiltern Cross Country league which organises five cross country races over the winter months. Members are able to enter some or all of these (you have to be registered with England Athletics in order to take part) and are a useful part of your winter run training. Each year a cross country club champion is appointed based on the overall points scored during that season.
For the 2025/2026 season the events are in St Albans (October), Oxford (November), Milton Keynes (December), Watford (January) and Luton for the final event in February.
Bedford Team Relays
This event started out as a social for the club but as it has grown in popularity with members, it has been decided to add it to our racing calendar. Normally held in the middle of July, it is run by event company ‘Go Beyond’ and is held at Box End in Bedford. It is a unique format of triathlon as each member completes each discipline in relay before moving to the next discipline.
Keep an eye out for information about this event as July nears so that teams can be put together.
