Club Championships

This is run once a year in May and June. The Clubs aim is to have the following categories (depends on entries numbers):  Men’s Singles, Ladies Singles, Men’s Doubles, Ladies Doubles and Mixed Doubles. 

Members are given a “play by date” by the organisers to have the rounds of the competition completed. If you cannot find a partner the Club will assist in locating one. No subs are allowed in the Competition.  There is an entry fee per Category, which is payable prior to commencement of Competition, and tennis balls and flood lights (if necessary) are members responsibility.

The Finals of all Competitions are played on the Finals Day in mid June.

Open Championships

This is run on the first week in August. It was first run in 2023 in partnership with Arklow Lawn Tennis Club. Entries are open to everyone and in its first year there were over 100 participants from all over leinster and Ireland. 

Anne Roice Memorial Tournament & BBQ

This Tournament is played around mid-Summers Day.  The Tournament usually takes place on a Friday evening, followed by our Annual BBQ and Presentation of Prizes by representative of the Roice Family.  This Tournament commenced following the death of founding Club Member Anne Roice in 1975.   Two Silver trays detail the winners of the Competition over the years and these are presented to the tournament winners. The Anne Roice Board in the Clubhouse contains all past winners. Order of Play is by Draw for Partners and American Tournament style of Competition.

Wimbledon Tennis Tournament

This Tournament by its name does not need too much explanation: it is played on the second Thursday of the official Wimbledon Tournament.   Everyone is asked to wear as much white as possible.  Normal Thursday Night Rules apply – draw for partners etc.  Competition is followed by “Strawberries & Cream” etc.   Work off the calories on the Court and you will not have to worry about the Strawberries & Cream.   Delicious Green Berry farm Strawberries!!!

Autumn League

This competition commences late September.  Matches are played on Friday and Sunday nights (you do not play both nights in one weekend).    Entrants are organised into teams (either 4, 6 or 8 per team – again depending on number of entries).    The format of play is usually Ladies Doubles / Men’s Doubles & Mixed Doubles.   Normally matches are total of 13 games, and there are two matches per session.   Each team has a Captain.   Subs are allowed if unavailable to play on a particular night.  Competition is usually completed by late October / early November as weather conditions can be the deciding factor at times!   Entry €10.    Flood Lights are provided by Club, but tennis balls are provided by competitors.

Halloween Fancy Dress Thursday Night Tournament:

Members are invited to “Dress Up” and play in the normal Thursday Night Club Tournament.  Entry fee is the usual Thursday Night fee of €4.    Prizes for Winners/ Best Dressed etc. followed by the normal chat & cup of tea after game and no doubt the odd witch and wizard making an appearance!  Great Fun.

Kris Kindle/ Christmas Fancy Dress Tennis Night:

Normally on last Thursday night at 8pm before Christmas Day.   Instead of the normal entry fee for Thursday Night Tournament, you are invited to buy a present for a Kris Kindle. Following Tennis all adjourn to the Club House to have a Kris Kindle Draw and Tea.

Thursday’s Tennis Night:

Every Thursday night at 8pm tennis is played, with a draw for partners. Entry fee €4, with tea and refreshments available after tennis. Social night ideal way for new members to get to know other members.

St Aidan’s League

Commences Feb/ March annually. This Competition is based on the same basis as the Autumn League (see above).   The entire proceeds from this Competition is donated to St Aidan Day Care Centre in Gorey.    Pat & Cecily Roche kindly donate prizes annually to the winning team.

History of this Tournament: Originally called “The Coach House League”, kindly sponsored by the late Sean Redmond and his wife Betty.  It then became known as the Roche Pharmacy League – kindly sponsored by Cecily & Pat Roche.  Moving on a few years it changed its name to the current one, and in recent years, the Tennis Club have been able to provide donations to St Aidans Day Care Centre.  The winning team is presented with the Perpetual St Aidan’s trophy.

Charity Events

Over recent years, Tennis Marathons or Table quizzes have been held for various local Charities.
