Starting with a 3K swim in an estuary with a strong current (which somehow always felt it was against Wendi) the water was 23.8°C, so wetsuits were optional for all athletes.
After the swim Wendi headed to transition to collect her bike (barefoot across a scorching carpet) into a sports arena before heading onto the 120K bike leg. It was a three-loop, out-and-back course with technical descents, dead turns, speed bumps, and some solid climbs.
With temperatures hitting 40°C, Wendi commented “it was no joke out there”.
The 30K run was four laps through a park and along the river, then back through town. Locals lined the streets spraying everyone they could with water. Wendi finished in an incredible time of 09:09 and 3rd British lady home in age group.
Phenomenal, well done Wendi
