This year we have decided to make a change to the format of the St. Aidans League Tournament.
The main change is that it will be held over a single weekend, Saturday 22nd February and Sunday 23rd February.
Teams of 4 players will play a round robin (or league) format over the course of the weekend. We will be hoping to have a competitive section and a more social section to the event and you can choose which type of team you would like to be part of. Remember its for charity as usual so we would love to see as many as possible playing.
The Twist!!
So here is the difference.... This year we will be assembling the teams using a fantasy points system. When I say "we", I mean "you". It will be up to you, to talk to your mates and playing partners etc., assemble your teams and submit them to enter. Before you all go and pick teams with the best 4 players in the club on them, let us explain the rules...
Every player will be assigned a "value", a number of points based on "a perceived" quality and experience. We will try to base this on things like position in the ladders, results in Leinster League, Chinese whispers and whatever sources of information we can find. We do not claim to be perfect, so you will have to bear with us and respect our decisions on these assigned values. Note: Junior players that play on the adult ladders will be allowed to participate.
Competitive Grouping
Each team can have a maximum of 25 points assigned to the 4 players
Each team must have at least 1 lady and at most 2 ladies.
Compensation will be given in matches where 1 lady and 1 man play 2 men. This compensation will be that the team with 1 lady will start each game 15 - Love up.
Social Grouping
Each team can have a maximum of 14 points assigned to the 4 players
Each team must have 2 ladies and 2 men.
Player "Values"
In general we will try to apply these by last known ladder position or comparison of the player to someone of similar quality and experience playing in the ladders. Please, try to work these out as best you can, do a simple comparison and it should work out! We will tell you what a players value is if you really can not determine it. Colin will be available to help but if you can try work it out yourself first and avoid bombarding him with silly questions that would also be great!
These will be applied as follows:
Mixed Singles Group 1 | 10 Points |
Mixed Singles Group 2 | 9 Points |
Mixed Singles Group 3 | 7 Points |
Mixed Singles Group 4 | 6 Points |
Mixed Singles Group 5 | Men: 5 Points Women 6 Points |
Mixed Singles Group 6 & 7 | Men: 4 Points Women 5 Points |
Mixed Singles Group 8 & 9 | Men: 3 Points Women 4 Points |
Mixed Singles Group 10 & 11 | Men: 2 Points Women 3 Points |
Mixed Singles Group 12 & 13 | Men: 1 Points Women 2 Points |
Ladies Singles Group 1 | 2 Points |
Ladies Singles Group 2 - 4 | 1 Point |
General Rules
Each team will sumbit players named from 1-4, this can not change.
We will validate your team on submission, there are no allowances for friends, maybe for envelopes full of cash though!
Each team Entry is €60 and all of this will go to the St Aidans Charity.
We will have to put a cap on the number of teams so please get your entries in as early as possible.
If you do not know enough people to form a team, you can sign up on the sheet on the noticeboard STRICTLY before Friday 14th February at 6pm. We will do our best to find you a team.
If you have a full team, you can submit it by sending all player names plus the team name to Colin McBride on 0861673384 or by sending an email to the club email address titled St Aidans League Team Submission.
One thing we do ask, before signing up, is to ensure that you are available for the full weekend. Each team should have around 3-4 matches over the course of the weekend, each match will be around 40 minutes long. We will be providing refreshments in the clubhouse all weekend, with a few drinks at the award cermony on the Sunday evening. All spectators are very welcome.
For each match, the order of the players will be changed. You will not know in advance what player you will play with or against, for each match. Each match will be different, until all combinations are exhausted, then it starts again, if required.
Each match will require that the team divides into two doubles partnerships and each partnership plays a 9 game set against the opposing team. All 9 games must be played and deuce and advantage will be played.
Each match the scoring will be
- 3 Points for a win
- 1 Extra Point for a win > 3 game (i.e. 7-2, 8-1, 9-0)
- 1 Extra Point for a loss by only 1 game (i.e. 4-5)
Each team will play each other team in their group once.
The top two teams will play in the final on Sunday 23rd and we will have an award cermony and a few drinks afterwards. Prizes are generously sponsored by Pat and Cecily Roche.
