The Len Forge Centre is a busy community football facility based in Southend on sea.
It hosts a full size 3G football pitch with floodlights, four full size grass football pitches, changing room facilities and a function hall with a bar.
The Len Forge Centre was developed on the Southend Borough Football Combination site at Eastwoodbury Lane and open back in August 2015. The project was funded through the Football Foundation along with contributions form local grass roots teams/leagues including Leigh Ramblers Youth, Leigh Ramblers F.C, White Ensign F.C, The Southend Borough Football Combination League, Southend Sunday League and Southend Vets League.
The facility bears the name of Len Forge MBE who was chairman of the Southend Borough Football Combination League based on the site in Eastwoodbury Lane, and served that league, the Essex FA, and was a leading figure in the formation of a number of Football leagues within Essex County. Moreover, he was a Football League level linesman and even found time to work in the treasurer’s department of Southend Borough Council. He died in 2008, and the facilities level of use by Southend’s footballing community is a fitting tribute to the man.
