Pronto Ride Etiquette

The Pronto Ride Etiquette – Enjoy the ride!

  1. Be on time for the ride; respect other club members and the ride organiser.
  2. Introduce yourself to the group and ask your questions!
  3. Obey the law, and respect other road users, especially walkers and runners.
  4. Slow down for horse-riders and communicate clearly. Be ready to stop if needed.
  5. Wear a helmet, dress appropriately for the weather, and make sure your bike is in good working order before you leave home.
  6. Ride within your skills and expertise, safety is a priority.
  7. Ride tidily, adjusting for weather and traffic conditions, and no more than two abreast, keeping handlebars level. No half-wheeling!
  8. We ride together, and the pace is set by the group, not the fastest or strongest rider!
  9. If the group separates on a hill climb, faster riders should wait at the top so the group can regroup.
  10. Signal turns and hazards such as parked or oncoming cars, potholes / gravel / muck on the road with your hands and/or voice so riders behind you are aware and stay safe.
  11. Move gradually and predictably when riding in a group. Sudden movements cause crashes.
  12. If you get out the saddle then make sure you accelerate slightly so your bike doesn’t fall back into the rider behind, causing them to crash.
  13. Ride descents at an appropriate speed and in single file. Take care and leave enough room to stop safely if needed.
  14. If you need to stop at any point let other riders know so the group can stop safely and move off the road or trail.
  15. If you’re leaving the ride early / before the end, then always let the ride organiser or other riders know, and leave from the back of the group.
  16. Enjoy the ride!
