Pronto Ride Etiquette
The Pronto Ride Etiquette – Enjoy the ride!
- Be on time for the ride; respect other club members and the ride organiser.
- Introduce yourself to the group and ask your questions!
- Obey the law, and respect other road users, especially walkers and runners.
- Slow down for horse-riders and communicate clearly. Be ready to stop if needed.
- Wear a helmet, dress appropriately for the weather, and make sure your bike is in good working order before you leave home.
- Ride within your skills and expertise, safety is a priority.
- Ride tidily, adjusting for weather and traffic conditions, and no more than two abreast, keeping handlebars level. No half-wheeling!
- We ride together, and the pace is set by the group, not the fastest or strongest rider!
- If the group separates on a hill climb, faster riders should wait at the top so the group can regroup.
- Signal turns and hazards such as parked or oncoming cars, potholes / gravel / muck on the road with your hands and/or voice so riders behind you are aware and stay safe.
- Move gradually and predictably when riding in a group. Sudden movements cause crashes.
- If you get out the saddle then make sure you accelerate slightly so your bike doesn’t fall back into the rider behind, causing them to crash.
- Ride descents at an appropriate speed and in single file. Take care and leave enough room to stop safely if needed.
- If you need to stop at any point let other riders know so the group can stop safely and move off the road or trail.
- If you’re leaving the ride early / before the end, then always let the ride organiser or other riders know, and leave from the back of the group.
- Enjoy the ride!
