Meet the coaching team
Brian Wright - Head Coach
- British Triathlon- Level 2 Diploma
- BTF CDP: S&C & Club Coach Mentor
- Coaching Children & Young Athletes
- British Cycling Level 2
Originally a mountain biker, I fell into multisport in 2010, participating in my first off-road duathlon in Thetford Forest.
Just over a year later, a Triathlon Club started in Leighton Buzzard, and I was hooked. Whilst I could swim, I was by no means a competitive swimmer, but the great coaching at LBTri Club prepared me for my first season of competition.
It wasn’t long before I got involved in organising club rides, which then developed into coaching. I am
British Cycling Level 2 and British Triathlon Level 2 diploma coach, which means I am qualified for 1-2-1
coaching.
My coaching philosophy is to really know the athletes I work with to tailor their training to harmonise their race ambitions with life and work commitments.
My training philosophy is to be the best I can to achieve things I never thought I could… and to love the adventure along the way.
If you are interested in 1/2/1 coaching, I can support athletes in performance development and looking to be competitive in their A race, including Age Group competition.
Due to work and life commitments, I typically only work with a limited number of athletes and can provide more details on enquiry.

I started running back in 2011 after a football injury stopped me from playing, and I wanted to keep fit. My first race was the local Dirt Half marathon, and I was soon hooked.
I joined the tri club in 2012 after signing up to my first marathon and wanted to include some cross-training in my training plan. I dipped my toe into multisport events with duathlons before moving on to triathlons and loved them, having completed races of all distances from sprint up to Ironman.
Running has always been my strongest discipline, but I enjoy all elements of triathlon and the team camaraderie that comes along with it (LB Tri excel at this!).
Having competed and gained a lot of experience and knowledge over several years in the sport, I now want to give back to others through coaching and help everyone achieve their potential and enjoy the sport for many years, like I have.
Georgie Zacharzewski
- Level 2 Swimming Teacher (2013)
- Level 1 Assistant Swimming Teacher (1994!)
- Ironman Finisher (2018)
- LBTRI Club Captain (2018-2021)
Swimming is in my DNA – in the pool but most of all open water. I am not the best, but I love the water and hope to excite others in this enjoyment! My Mum’s a great swimmer too, who, in her late seventies, can still swim a length of butterfly! I was 6 when this picture was taken, proud as punch to win my gold medal! More importantly, this love and passion for swimming has endured and is something I hope to ignite in all those I teach and coach.
I love to see people develop confidence in the water and achieve more than they thought possible. I take this attitude into my training and events. My enthusiasm for swimming gave me the opportunity to join the club in 2013, thanks to the encouragement of a passionate member to whom I will always be grateful.
Thanks to the inspiration, camaraderie and expertise within LBTRI Club I took on my first Sprint triathlon in 2013 on my Halfords steel, hybrid bike! From this point, I developed a love for three disciplines, not just the one (though swimming is still my favourite). Since then, I have completed numerous triathlons and sporting events notably, Ride London 100 mile cycle (old route) twice, Snowdonia’s Slateman Triathlon (Sprint & Olympic distances), swimming Lake Coniston (5.2 miles) and the one that makes me smile the most, Ironman Bolton in 2018. At each, the team spirit of other LBTRIERS during the training journey and on the day has been the driving force that carried me through the toughest moments and made every achievement even more special.
As a coach, I hope to nurture a love for swimming in others so that people can feel confident to achieve their goals and know that you can always achieve more than you ever thought possible.
My swim coaching top tip: Practice your breathing in the water, get comfortable letting go of your air and turning your head to breathe. Get the breathing right, feel at ease, learn to enjoy the water, then your swim technique, speed and endurance will follow.

I come from a background of running, only as a means of keeping fit to play hockey. When I gave up hockey due to injuries piling up on top of injuries, I took up running seriously to run the London Marathon and raise money for The Spinal Injuries Association. Whilst running the dirt half as a warm-up race, I came upon a lady running along wearing an LB Tri club top, we got talking, and the rest is history. I like the really long stuff, so long as it involves as little swimming as possible, and I enjoy trying to get members to run as efficiently as possible, whatever your distance, Triathlon is an endurance sport.

- Level 2 Diploma Triathlon Coach
- Event Level Running Coach
- Age Group Qualifier - Represented Great Britain
My introduction to triathlon came in 2011 when I came across an advert to help create a triathlon club in Leighton Buzzard. I was one of 4 founding members, but I knew very little about triathlon at that time. I soon learnt from the experienced other members and have now competed in many triathlons and other multisport events, including International Age Group events in Duathlon and Aquathlon, representing Great Britain.
I am passionate about continuous improvement, but most importantly, enjoying the sport and camaraderie of triathlon.

- Specialist Disciplines: Swim Drills and Technique
- One of LBTri's Official 'Hot Lap' Time Keeper
I started this triathlon lark back in 2001 with a novice sprint and remember gazing in awe at others competing in the sprint distance. However, I quickly got hooked and progressed steadily, completing four full Ironman races between 2008 and 2011 in my 50s.
I now concentrate on coaching swim training all year round, open water swim training during the summer months and transition training sessions in the spring. And I still compete in triathlons…

I was only ever going to do 1 triathlon...
In 2014 I decided to do a charity Triathlon at RAF Halton in aid of Ian Rennie hospice who had supported our family and joined LB Tri Club.I have gone onto compete in countless triathlons including 4 Ironmans and multi sport events, if I was asked to name my favourite event it would have to be Swimrun Coniston.

I was persuaded to try my first triathlon at the age of 46, way back in 2000, by a work colleague. I'd always hated sport at school - mainly because I was rubbish at it - but I ran out of excuses and had a go. That really did change my life. I wasn't last (quite), and all the marshalls cheered me on, so I did some more races the following year and bought a road bike as my dutch shopping bike really didn't cut the mustard (although I had taken the basket and the bike stand off). I learned to swim, crawl, and gradually started getting faster. Fast forward 20 years, several World and European championships and bits of me starting to wear out (I put it down to all the clubbing in my youth!) I decided I should put something back into the sport and train as a coach. Cycling has always been 'my thing', so as well as triathlon qualifications, I have a level 2 British Cycling coach qualification and love to encourage those who find the bike leg a bit nerve-racking. Having stuck to Sprint and Olympic distance until now, my challenge in 2024 is to complete a half iron man (Ironman 70.3) at the age of 70.3. Jo's Mile-a-Year Challenge.

Alex Foley
- Cycling Level 2 Coach since 2017

Alex has been racing cyclo-cross since 2012 and has been a British Cycling Level 2
coach since 2017.
Alex has coached both children's and adult sessions at the Brownlee Centre
before moving to Leighton Buzzard. He has been a member of LB Tri since
2023 and joined as part of preparation for his first triathlon. Almost a year to
the day after his first sprint distance, Alex completed the Holkham 70.3
middle distance event.
Alex is in his element, bike coaching, with TT and Road Cycling coaching
specialisation and he’s looking to do more off-road racing and get as many
people into racing multi-terrain as possible. Perfect, then that Alex is supporting us in
our bike skills series this autumn is getting people more confident with bike
handling.
Jennifer Garner
I’m sure many of you will know of Jennifer Garner, who has been a member since 2018 .
Like some others in the club, Jen has been a member of Leighton Fun Runners but has seen the light and become very much part of our triathlon community! Jen embraces adventure and takes on all manner of swim, bike and run challenges, having run Edinburgh Marathon, Swum the Christiansborg Rundt in Copenhagen, and ridden the Loch
Lomond Etape 100km ride.
Jen brings her energy and creativity to sessions and is currently working toward her CIRF (Coach in Running Fitness) qualification. Some of you may recall that Jen hosted a number of our Zwift indoor training sessions in previous years.
I’m very pleased that Jen will be supporting the club and joining the coaching team.
