Ladder Rules

🎾 Club Tennis Ladder Rules

🤝Sportsmanship -Let’s keep it fun, fair, and competitive! Please read these simple rules so we’re all on the same page. Ladder located on website-Club Info-Ladder or hanging on Lights Top up area at Club

1. Challenges

  • You can challenge a player up to 3 spots above you.
  • Once challenged, a player must play the match within 14 days — or the challenger moves up by default (unless rescheduled).
  • You can only challenge the same player twice in a row. After that, wait until you're just one spot below them.
  • Max 3 challenges to the same player in 3 months.
  • We recommend 1 challenge every 2 weeks.
  • If a player is inactive for 4 weeks (no matches or challenges), they’ll be moved down 2 places. Reviews happen on the 1st of each month.
  • Each player gets 1 wild card to challenge anyone above them.
  • If a player is injured, we list their expected return date next to their name. This signals to challengers that they should move on to the next available player above them.

2. Match Format

  • Standard match: Best of 3 sets. Use a championship tiebreak (first to 10) if a third set is needed.
  • Want to play a different format? That’s fine — as long as both agree and you tell an admin when reporting the result.

3. Rankings & Results

  • Winner: Takes the position of the challenged player.
  • Loser: Drops one place down, even if they weren’t the challenger.
  • Report your result within 48 hours to any admin, including the score and match date. Contact one of the following: Breffni, Bríd, Louise McBrearty, Maggie, Owen, or Patrick Comerford.
  • The ladder will be updated online within 3 days, and posted on the courts weekly 🗂️ (when possible).
