Frome Triathlon 2025
Over 200 athletes signed up for the Frome Sprint Triathlon 2025, and while the weather did its best to throw a few damp curveballs, it turned out to be an unforgettable day of racing, rivalry, and relentless enthusiasm. With a welcoming atmosphere and a well-organised course, it was also fantastic to see so many first-time triathletes taking on the challenge. The Frome Triathlon continues to prove itself as the perfect race for beginners—friendly, supportive, and a great introduction to the sport.
Under the expert guidance of Race Director Nick Johnson, his ever-meticulous right-hand man Pete Willis, and an army of high-energy volunteers, success was almost guaranteed. Even the rain didn’t stand a chance.
The Calm Before the Swim
Registration opened at 07:30, and within minutes, transition was buzzing. Bikes were being racked, triathletes were nervously adjusting their kit, and the occasional forgotten race belt was swiftly resolved thanks to a trusty tub of safety pins. With plenty of experienced marshals offering advice and encouragement, everyone was in safe hands – though possibly not dry ones.
The Soundtrack to Suffering
Despite several torrential showers, spirits remained sky-high. Lizzie, armed with the PA system and a playlist of pure gold, kept Somerset grooving to the sounds of The Village People, Fleetwood Mac, and Rihanna. Reports suggest that at least three marshals were caught mid dance, and one competitor may or may not have attempted a YMCA while mounting their bike.
The Men’s Race – Dan vs. Dan vs. Matthew
The men’s race delivered fireworks. Dan Colman successfully defended his title, but Dan Crocker made him sweat for it (and not just because of the rain). The two Dans went head-to head in the same wave, pushing each other to the limit.
Drama struck when Colman suffered a flat front tyre towards the end of the bike course. Limping into T2, he still clung to his lead, but it made the final 5k a nail-biting showdown. In the end, Colman held on, with Crocker snapping at his heels.
Meanwhile, Matthew Willis, starting in a later wave, threw in a performance to remember – finishing just 60 seconds behind Crocker and claiming the final podium spot.
The Women’s Race – Esme in a League of Her Own
If the men’s race was a duel, the women’s race was a masterclass. Esme White stormed to victory with a jaw-dropping 11-minute lead over second place. That kind of gap over a sprint distance is the stuff of legend. Behind her, the battle for second was a thriller. Meg Stratton just edged out Helen Gibbs by 29 seconds, proving that every second counts when it comes to silverware.
Relays – Pronto to the Podium
The relay teams brought their A-game, with Pronto Bikes taking top honours. Congratulations to Ben Hansell, Rob Borek, and Karen Penny for the win – and an extra shout-out to Rob, who, as a self-confessed cycling purist, was pleasantly shocked to find himself on a triathlon podium.
Team Tri For Cake (which sounds like our kind of team) claimed second, while Avon Valley Triathletes rounded out the top three.
Sponsors – The Heroes Behind the Scenes
A massive thank you to our incredible sponsors. Without their support, this event wouldn’t happen: Precision Fuel & Hydration, Young Johnson Monumental Masons, Acer Tree Surgeons, Meaden Plumbing & Heating, Clarkson’s Funeral Directors, Edmundson Electrical, Forrester Sylvester Mackett Solicitors, and Pronto Bikes.
See You in 2026
Frome Triathlon 2025 was everything a race day should be – competitive, fun, and filled with heart. We can’t wait to see you next year for what promises to be another epic day of racing. Just remember to bring a raincoat.
