Colin 4th in the Abu Dhabi World Paratriathlon Finals at first attempt

Triathlon Scotland Race Review

The sport of triathlon rarely fails to give us excitement and the WTCS Grand final in Abu Dhabi at the weekend was no different. We saw spectacular racing at all levels of the sport, with medal success in the Para racing, Age-Group triumphs and unexpected moments in the Under 23 and Elite racing.

World Triathlon Championship Finals Abu Dhabi – Paratriathlon

On day one of the event the best paratriathletes in the world took to the stage as the first athletes to test themselves against one another in the searing heat of Abu Dhabi. We had two deserving Scottish athletes on the start line, one with an array of experience behind them and the other competing in a world championships for the first time in their career.

Alison Peasgood, alongside her guide Brooke Gillies, was racing in the PTVI category. She was making her first appearance since the Commonwealth Games back in July. Her preparations going into the race was full of ups and downs, but she was determined to make it a successful trip.

The pair were up against some stiff competition including Paralympic champion Susana Rodríguez, meaning that they had to be on form.

A strong all-round swim, bike, run performance, including the fastest run split of the day, meant that they crossed the line in third spot to claim an emotional bronze medal.

We covered the quick rise of Colin Wallace not long ago and he was given the opportunity to show his newly developed skills on the biggest stage of all.

He started his race in the calm waters of the Persian Gulf, and was forced to make chase after coming out of the water four minutes back from the leaders. Producing the fastest bike split of the day, he managed to bring the gap down before heading out onto the run just off the podium places. Although not able to bring the gap down any further during the run, he crossed the line in fourth place, delighted with his debut World Championships.
