Guidance and Rules for Users
The following information outlines the expected behaviour and conduct of participants while using the athletics track and field facility at Posties Park Sports Hub. All users should adhere to this guidance at all times as well as any additional guidance provided by facility staff.
- Be polite and respectful to coaches and other users of the facility. Communicate with others throughout your session to ensure everyone can train in a safe and welcoming environment.
- Always run in an anti-clockwise direction and look both ways before cross the track. Young athletes should be supervised at all times.
- The ‘fast or ‘inside’ lane is to the left. Lane 1 is the inside lane and lane 6 is the outside lane. The outer lanes should be used by athletes doing their warm-up or cool-down so that the inside or fast lanes are available for those doing their training session.
- Be aware of your pace when using lanes 1 and 2. If you are a faster runner than the person in front of you then you should move to the next lane and shout ‘overtaking on right’. To avoid collisions, always try to give other runners plenty warning when you are overtaking them.
- Never stand on the track, especially in lanes 1 or 2. When you finish an interval or sprint, look over your shoulder and move to the right as you stop. If you move left (apart from lane 1) you are more likely to collide with another runner.
- Don’t use headphones or your mobile phone on the track or infield. This is potentially dangerous and may stop you from hearing other track users or safety announcements.
- It is acceptable to do warm up drills on the outside lanes as long as it doesn’t stop others from completing their training session. When in doubt, do your drills and warm up on the outfield grass areas when it is safe to do so.
- Always be considerate of other users and don’t disrupt their track or field training sessions.
- The in-field area is out of bounds when participants are using the throwing facilities. During an event, only competitors and officials are allowed to be within the in-field area.
- All field events and related equipment can only be used by recognised clubs or squads.
- The long jump landing area/sandpit is not for playing in. Similarly, the high jump mats are for landing on and not to be used for resting or playing on.
- Please do not leave your litter for others to clear up, and make sure you keep your valuables safe.
- The facility is designed for athletics and no other sports are permitted. In addition, no dogs apart from guide dogs are allowed within the arena.
- No clubs or organised groups are permitted to use the track without prior authorisation.
- No cross country or long spikes can be worn on the track as it will damage the track.
- No bikes, scooters, skateboards etc. are permitted
- One slot can be booked per person. It is prohibited for anyone to let others into the facility who do not have a booking.
