In the men’s race Marcus Dey, Hamish Reilly and Benjamin Cumberland are in action. Dey has raced eight times this year outside of Britain in both the senior and U23 category. As a senior his best result came at the Europe Triathlon Sprint and Relay Championships Balikesir where he finished ninth before winning a bronze medal in the mixed team relay. At the same event he narrowly missed out on the U23 podium, finishing fourth. Domestically he raced twice in the British Triathlon Super Series, coming third at both Mallory Heats and Finals and the Grand Final.
For Cumberland this is his first international race of the year having won the British Triathlon Super Series. He made his international senior debut in 2023, finishing 58th at Europe Triathlon Cup Olsztyn before improving on that at Europe Triathlon Premium Cup Holten where he came 46th.
No stranger to the international scene, Reilly is the third Brit in the men’s U23 race. He has raced ten times this year already at various Europe Triathlon and World Triathlon Cup events. His best result was gold at the Europe Triathlon Cup, and in the U23 category he won silver at Europe Triathlon Sprint and Relay Championship Balikesir. Reilly was also part of the mixed relay team in Turkey alongside Dey that a picked up a bronze medal.
There are also a trio of British women competing in the U23 race in Spain. Daisy Davies returns to the World Championship stage after finishing eighth in Abu Dhabi back in 2022 and 14th in Pontevedra last year. This year her best result in short course triathlon was ninth at Europe Triathlon Cup Cork, while in long course triathlon she boasts two gold medals having won Challenge Vieux Bocau and Challenge Wales. British Triathlon Super Series winner Isabella Hayes is also on the start list, making her World Championship debut. Outside of the Super Series, where she made three visits to the podium in as many races, she was eighth at Gdansk FISU World University Triathlon Championship before racing to fourth in the mixed relay team.
Like Hayes, Katie Rodda, the final British name on the U23 women’s start list, is also a World Championship debutant. She was second behind Hayes in the British Triathlon Super Series and internationally raced twice in 2024. Her best international result was sixth at Europe Triathlon Cup Ceuta earlier this month.
